In January 2015 Esther took up the position of Deputy Consul-General in Hong Kong, where she also heads the Prosperity Team, working to strengthen the UK-Hong Kong economic relationship.
Between 2010 and 2014 Esther was Deputy Head of Mission in the British Embassy Bucharest and was Britain’s Chargé D’Affaires Ad Interim (acting Ambassador) in Romania for several months in 2014. Before that, she held two roles in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London: coordinating the work of UK embassies around the world on climate change, and working on UK policy in the United Nations, G8 and European Union on counter-terrorism. Her first diplomatic posting was from 2002 to 2008, in the Political Section of the British Embassy in Moscow, after spending a year learning Russian.
Before joining the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2000, Esther worked in the Special Reports Team at the Financial Times in London. She graduated in English Language and Literature from New College, Oxford University in 1998.
Esther lives in Hong Kong with her husband and six-year-old son.
